So, what is a cortisone shot? Dr. Schweiger explains that, “A cortisone shot is a short treatment performed in a dermatologist’s office. A tiny, diluted steroid medication, similar to cortisone, is injected directly into the pimple. This steroid medication is anti-inflammatory, so the result is the inflammation is decreased within 24-48 hours. Since inflammation of the skin is one of the factors leading to the pimple in the first place, the result is that the pimple is flattened within 24-48 hours. There is no down-time after a cortisone injection, the pimple simply flattens out.”
