FAQ About Acne: Exfoliation and Acne
Do you recommend exfoliating for patients with acne?
Gentle exfoliation can be helpful, as it removes excess oil, dirt and grime from the pores. Be careful not to over-exfoliate, as this can lead to inflammation and irritation on the skin.
What is the difference between a chemical exfoliation and a physical exfoliation?
Physical exfoliation involves physically scrubbing the skin with an abrasive material, in order to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. Examples of physical exfoliators are loofahs and microbeads. Chemical exfoliation uses ingredients like glycolic acid or salicylic acid to loosen the dead skin cells, so they are released from the skin’s surface.
